Business Requirements:

Scottish Enterprise was keen to develop impressive environmental practices through a series of dedicated support services as part of its overall approach to good corporate responsibility. The company commenced recording environmental information in 2006 mainly using spreadsheets and estimated readings which was a lengthy and cumbersome process.

Solution:

Green Oak Solutions were able to offer Scottish Enterprise a solution by way of its carbon management software - carboncheck, which significantly reduced the amount of time and effort, spent recording and reporting information thus allowing Scottish Enterprise to use the recorded information in a much more productive manner.

Benefits

Working with Green Oak Solutions, Scottish Enterprise has populated the new system with its own historic information and can now upload the information both swiftly and efficiently. The perfect example being reporting utility information. Before all staff had to take meter reads every month and then email them internally to management where it was transferred onto a spreadsheet and converted to tonnes of CO2 (tCO2) using DEFRA conversion figures.

Now Automatic Meter Readers have been installed in all offices to enable access to instant information from the meter operators website. The information is then uploaded directly onto the carboncheck system, which automatically allocates the readings to the relevant site and converts the information to tCO2.

The new carboncheck system also allows reports to be accessed and downloaded plus the dashboard provides detailed management information which can be viewed at organisation or site level. Scottish Enterprise are planning to use carboncheck to manage key data capture and reporting to satisfy their obligations under the forthcoming Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC). There is also a plan to  provide all personnel with access to the carboncheck dashboard so that they gain a sense of ownership for future environmental aims and objectives.
